Frequently Asked Questions

  • What do your quotations normally include ?
Our quotations include or exclude exactly what our customers ask for and have no hidden catches, we will explain if any electrical or builders works are required, we will always try to offer a turn key solution.
  • How often does an air conditioning or refrigeration system need to be serviced ?
Most air conditioning and refrigeration systems need to have a planned maintenance visit twice a year, this is sometimes increased if the systems are installed in particularly dirty environments. Maintenance not only increases system reliability and lifespan but will also help to keep running costs and repairs to a minimum.
  • Do you comply with Health and Safety requirements?
We produce specific method statements and risk assessments for the proposed installation or service / repair works in line with our quotations. A copy of this documentation will be sent to you before works commence. All our engineers carry a generic health and safety folder on their service vehicles, the folders include method statements, task based risk assessments, COSHH data sheets and much more information.
  • Is there any chance of catching Legionella from your systems ?
None of the systems we design and install can put you at risk from legionella. For more information on Legionella please see our Technical Library.
  • Can I have an air conditioning system which Cools and Heats ?
Yes, nearly all air conditioning systems heat as well as cool as a standard. Using an air conditioning system to provide heating is usually much cheaper to run compared to conventional gas, oil or electrically powered systems.
  • How much warranty will I get ?
We guarantee all our installations for a minimum period of one year, however some systems manufactured by companies such as Mitsubishi Electric can be offered with a parts warranty of up to seven years, subject to regular planned maintenance.
  • How long is the equipment lifetime ?
Most air conditioning and refrigeration systems have an expected life span of approximately fifteen years. The life span is of course subject to regular planned maintenance.
  • What are the Electrical Power Requirements ?
We will advise the electrical power requirements within our quotations, we can also arrange for electrical power supplies to be installed to new systems.
  • Do you have a callout charge ?
We do not have a fixed call out charge or mileage charge. Labour is charged at our standard hourly rate from the engineer's previous working location or your local service centre, whichever is nearest. For account holding customers our service engineers are available 24-7 for emergency breakdowns.
  • Do I need planning permission ?
In some cases your local authority will require you apply for planning permission to locate outdoor condensing units. Don't worry we can assist you with this.
  • Do you provide financing options ?
We don't but we can recommend MELFinance from Mitsubishi Electric. MELFinance helps you to manage your cashflow, whilst benefiting from Pitkin & Ruddock installed services. Their leaflet is available for download in our Technical Library section.
