HMS Scott

Pitkin & Ruddock worked with the major defence contractor Babcock Marine on the recent refit of the Royal Navy’s oceanographic survey ship HMS Scott.
The vessel is the fifth largest in the fleet at 13,500 tons, she is currently undergoing the most extensive refit in her 17-year life at the Devonport Navel base in Plymouth.
Pitkin & Ruddock originally designed, installed and commissioned the suite of refrigerated provision rooms when the vessel was built at Appledore Shipbuilders in the late 90s and have provided the vessel with spares support services during its operational life to date.
We were pleased to have been asked by Babcock Marine to assist in the specialist works overhauling the refrigerated machinery operating the provision rooms and the re-commissioning of the systems, which is a small part of the overall refit project which includes the overhaul of most machinery packages, a revamp of the accommodation area, upgrade of the vital sonar equipment used for its surveying and a complete repaint of the vessel.
