Background:

The James Paget University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides medical services to a catchment population of over 250,000 across Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft and Waveney.

Named after the famed 19th Century surgeon, who was president of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Surgeon to Queen Victoria, the James Paget Hospital officially opened in July 1982, and was established as a Foundation Trust in 1993. The hospital is now one of the largest employers in the area, employing over 3,000 staff and training over one third of the medical students from the University of East Anglia. Their main site is in Gorleston and is supported by the Newberry Clinic and other outreach clinics in the area.

Details:

The Trust provides a full range of general acute services in addition to a number of specialised services that require temperature managed environments, such as maternity, consulting rooms, operating theatres, CT, MRI & mortuary. They also operate a category 1 Hyperbaric Chamber for ventilating and monitoring critically ill patients whilst they are receiving hyperbaric oxygen therapy. (One of only 24 in the UK).

There are around 500 inpatient beds located in the James Paget University Hospital providing a mix of critical, intensive and high dependency care, general surgery and medicine, maternity, paediatrics and neonatal, and escalation beds.

The Trust is a high performing organisation that prides itself in putting patients first. They continually strive to improve clinical outcomes and patient experience to meet the needs of their patients and local population. Firmly rooted in the local community they are committed to the continual improvement of patient care and work closely in partnership with primary, community and social care agencies to maximise their potential as a first class centre for teaching and research in the region.
