Background:
HVAC installer, Pitkin & Ruddock has taken a bold step towards long-term sustainability and growth with its new flagship HQ in Bury St Edmunds, equipped with a cutting-edge, integrated Panasonic solution. The Bob Ruddock Centre is a purpose-built site, housing the firms’ technical sales, engineering, senior management, service centre and a new dedicated training academy across 5.500sqft.
The Challenge:
Pitkin & Ruddock wanted to find a cutting-edge solution for long-term sustainability and growth with its new flagship HQ in Bury St Edmunds. The building was designed during COVID-19, therefore indoor air quality was a central concern..
Solutions & applied technology:
Panasonic Technology at the Core
Designed by Rees Pryer Architects, the two-storey facility represents a commitment to employee wellbeing, sustainability and training the next generation of refrigeration and air conditioning engineers. The Panasonic units specified for the project features two x Panasonic 3-pipe ECOi EC MF3 VRF units, an Aquarea air to water heat pump for domestic hot water, heat recovery systems for both floors plus a twin split AC system utilising a combination of compact and standard cassette units with nanoe XTM technology. The Panasonic systems were deemed the best solution to ensure the system was sustainable and energy efficient.
“Panasonic was our first choice,” says Damian Nunn – Managing Director. “We know the systems, we trust the technology and they align with our goals around sustainability and reliability.”
Built During the Pandemic, Designed for the Future
The building was designed during COVID-19, therefore indoor air quality was a central concern. Panasonic’s nanoe™ X technology, standard in the installed cassettes, uses the natural occurring hydroxyl radicals to inhibit certain pollutants, allergens, and viruses in supporting healthier air indoors.
Training the Next Generation
Pitkin & Ruddock has worked with Panasonic since 2017. As Elite Pro Partners, all of their installers are trained on Panasonic systems and as a result they can offer customers an extended seven-year warranty on Panasonic units. More so, looking to upskill the next generation of installers, the team are now able to offer training for apprentices in their new onsite training academy. Pitkin & Ruddock is investing in the future of the refrigeration and air conditioning industry, providing structured training on Panasonic systems to apprentices and upskilling existing installers.
Units intalled
- 2 x Panasonic 3-pipe ECOi EC MF3 VRF units
- 1 x Aquarea air to water heat pump, heat recovery systems
- 1 x twin split AC system with nanoe XTM technology
Green Impact of the project
“Air quality matters. With nanoe™ X technology, we didn’t need an extra system, it was built into the units,” Damian Nunn explains.
The Panasonic ECOi EX MF3 Series supports simultaneous heating and cooling across zones, with up to 39 connected indoor units, and achieves a SCOP of 4.77 (8HP outdoor unit, LOT21 seasonal heating). This makes it one of the most efficient commercial VRF systems currently available.
What the client says
“We plan to be in this business long term,” adds Damian Nunn. “That means partnering with brands that offer the same vision - and Panasonic has delivered every step of the way.”

What our Refrigeration & Air Conditioning customers say
Pitkin & Ruddock have been our installer and maintenance provider since being a sub-contractor on a large project in 2017. They really are a 5 star contractor – highly recommend!
Commercial Customer - Essex
As always, Lewis and Rufus did a fantastic job in investigating the system, identifying, and fixing the fault. It’s always a pleasure having the lads on site.
Office Manager - Hertfordshire
I just wanted to take a moment to share some feedback about the team who have been installing our new air conditioning…this week. All four gentlemen have been absolutely fantastic and are a real credit to your company. They’ve been polite, friendly, and professional throughout – and even had a great sense of humour (though perhaps don’t tell them we noticed that part!).
Our office is an extremely busy environment with members of the public coming in and out all day, many of whom are vulnerable. Despite this, the team have been nothing but respectful and considerate, and they’ve managed to complete the work with next to no disruption. Considering the scale of the installation, that’s a huge achievement and something we’re really grateful for. Please do pass on our thanks and appreciation to the team – it’s been a real pleasure having them on site.
Conference Centre
I’d just like to say a big thank you to everyone for a fantastic job. The boys were brilliant and I appreciate all their hard work (especially on the Thursday when the rain just didn’t stop all day!).
IT Company
Thank you for the Maintenance report. I must extend our thanks to Steve who was tidy, a clean worker and presentable. He undertook work which I questioned for certain areas that had not been checked in the past which should have been.
